Zaaghi, an immigrant girl who claims to come from the depths of the sea, believes the ocean floor is no place for children. She takes a taxi and asks the driver to bring her to a children’s party at the easternmost edge of the city, at the end of its darkest alley.

Zaaghi, una bambina immigrata che dice di provenire dalle profondità del mare, pensa che il fondo dell’oceano non sia un posto adatto ai bambini. Prende un taxi e chiede all’autista di portarla a una festa organizzata dai bambini nel punto più a est della città, in fondo al suo vicolo più buio.

Born in Tehran in 1992, Sepide Berenji holds a BA in Persian Language and Literature from the University of Tehran and an MA in Cinema from the Tehran University of Art. She began her artistic career as a teenager, writing poetry and fiction, publishing her work in well-known Iranian literary magazines. After creating several experimental student films, she directed her first professional short, Raya, which gained significant recognition both in Iran and internationally, screening at festivals such as the 60th Zlín Film Festival, 49th Sehsüchte, 37th BUFF Malmö, 57th Ale Kino! and 26th SCHLiNGEL. Zaaghi is her second short film. Sepide also teaches literature and filmmaking to children, teens, and adults, and serves as CEO of Maajara Film School, where she develops educational projects in cinema and art.

Nata a Teheran nel 1992, Sepide Berenji ha conseguito una laurea in Lingua e Letteratura Persiana all’Università di Teheran e un Master in Cinema alla Tehran University of Art. Ha iniziato la sua attività artistica da adolescente, scrivendo poesie e racconti e pubblicandoli su prestigiose riviste letterarie iraniane. Dopo aver realizzato una serie di cortometraggi sperimentali da studentessa, ha diretto il suo primo corto professionale, Raya, che ha ottenuto un notevole successo nazionale e internazionale, con selezioni a festival come il 60° Zlín Film Festival, il 49° Sehsüchte, il 37° BUFF Malmö, il 57° Ale Kino! e il 26° SCHLiNGEL. Zaaghi è il suo secondo cortometraggio. Sepide insegna letteratura e cinema a bambini, adolescenti e adulti ed è CEO della Maajara Film School, dove sviluppa progetti educativi nel campo del cinema e dell’arte.
