First Time In Drag di Pietro Macaione, Italia, 15’

Rico, a nonbinary person, has built in her home her fortress, welcomed by the love of her mother and her friends Andrea and Sara. The dream of doing drag has been with her for a long time, even though the future scares her. She decides to show herself to her small town near Rome for the first time in drag. She prepares everything with extreme care, but something goes wrong. Yet, right there, she discovers a deeper victory: be herself.

Rico, persona non binaria, ha costruito nella sua casa la sua fortezza, accolta dall’amore di sua madre e dellə suə amichə Andrea e Sara. Il sogno di fare drag la accompagna da tempo, anche se il futuro le fa paura. Decide di mostrarsi al suo piccolo paesino vicino Roma per la prima volta in drag. Prepara tutto con estrema cura, ma qualcosa va storto. Eppure, proprio lì, scopre una vittoria più profonda: essere finalmente sé stessa.

Pietro Macaione (Palermo, 1996) graduated with honours from the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo in 2020, with a thesis inspired by Senegalese filmmaker Djibril Diop Mambéty. He has worked on major film sets in Sicily (Indiana Jones 5, The White Lotus 2) and creates short films and documentaries focusing on marginalised characters. In 2022, he co-created the web series AfterSex and in 2023 began studying directing at the Gian Maria Volonté School in Rome, where he made First Time in Drag, part of his “Failure” trilogy.

Pietro Macaione (Palermo, 1996) si è laureato con lode all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Palermo nel 2020 con una tesi ispirata a Djibril Diop Mambéty. Ha lavorato su set internazionali in Sicilia (Indiana Jones 5, The White Lotus 2) e realizza cortometraggi e documentari su personaggi ai margini. Nel 2022 ha co-creato la webserie AfterSex e nel 2023 ha iniziato il corso di regia alla Scuola Gian Maria Volonté, dove ha diretto First Time in Drag, parte di una trilogia.
